For an example of the arrogance of our two major political parties’, consider the Navy ships that have been built & named in modern times after living presidents of the United States. Traditionally this is not done until a president had died. During the early struggles of our country, I feel it was understandable. The country needed our leaders to be honored on many levels. But somewhere during modern times some arrogant politician decided to break the tradition of waiting & get his “president” a boat; probably to get headlines, votes for reelection, or maybe personal financial gain. Who really knows? Not to be out done, the other party jumped on the band wagon. And you can bet that with the building of each ship, the idea-man insisted on one-upping the last one, which, of course, would certainly cost more. Now I am not saying that the Navy and the United States did not need these new boats, but the possibility could have existed. And, if so, the tax payers’ money (or at least our grandchildren & great-grandchildren’s tax money) was spent only for the glorification of a particular political party’s president. And we wonder how our budget deficient & national debit is so high and continues to grow.
