What is the basis for so many different religious beliefs today? According to Adherents.com there are 22 major religions in the world *. Who knows how many sub-groups there are under each of the major groups. Just how did all these different religions and sub-groups come about? No one could give a solid answer based on any kind of factual documentation; and any kind of acceptable answer would have to be based on plain old unbiased common sense. And that would be only a “best guess”. So why does each of these major groups insist that their beliefs is the only valid one? Their only answer is to quote something from their “Bible” and declare faith in it.

It is interesting that if you go far enough back in recorded history all we really have is just a bunch of individual writings by individual humans. The first record of a written bible is what is referred to as the old testament of the King James Version of the bible. There are arguments that Islam was the very first religion; that this was the religion given to Adam in the Garden of Eden. That argument will say that Islam was not brought about by the Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century. Regardless, the fact is that if you go back far enough in history most all of today’s religions come from a single source. So why all the different religious groups and sub-groups?

Like politics, a religious argument will never be “won” by anyone. The simple reason is that none of them can prove their point. It is all based on some sort of faith. Therefore, the only question is “What effects do religions in general have on the world’s population?”
